FKM Elastomers

fkm seal material

FKM | FDA, a fluoro-rubber-based elastomer, also known as FKM and VITON®, is recognized for its superior qualities as an FKM material, especially in applications like FKM seal material. This material excels in providing resistance to high temperatures, weathering, ozone, and a wide array of chemicals, making it an ideal choice for FKM seals made of semi-finished product: FKM tubes, and FKM bushings. FKM | FDA exhibits commendable chemical resistance when used as an FKM seal material, particularly against mineral oils, greases containing sulfur, HFD fluids, crude oil, and sour gas. However, it does have limitations as an FKM material, showing less resistance to anhydrous ammonia, amines, ketones, esters, hot water, and low-molecular-weight organic acids. In addition to its versatile use in FKM seals, FKM tubes, and FKM bushings, FKM | FDA aligns with the standards required for food-grade applications, further highlighting its utility in diverse environments.

Application

FPM can be used for production of U-shaped seals, chevron seals, wipers and non-standard seals. FKM is mainly used in cases with temperature and chemical stress. Also it is used in hydraulic systems with fire-resistant hydraulic fluids HFD.
In practice verified that the seals by type “V-Ring” out of FPM capable of working at very high speeds, up to 78 m/s.

Mainly used

  • Non-standard seals in chemical industry and thermal engineering in metallurgy;
  • Rotary shaft seals;
  • O-rings;
  • Hydraulic seals for HFD-fluids

Technical Description of FKM (Fluoroelastomer) Rubber

FKM, commonly referred to as Fluoroelastomer or FKM material, is a synthetic rubber prized for its exceptional performance in demanding applications. It is a preferred choice for FKM seal material and FKM Viton material, known for its robustness in various industrial uses.
FKM, a unique class of FKM Viton material, is a copolymer composed of vinylidene fluoride, hexafluoropropylene, and sometimes tetrafluoroethylene. This composition is tailored to enhance specific properties, such as flexibility and chemical resistance, making it ideal for FKM seals and other applications.
Temperature Resistance: FKM material stands out for its ability to withstand extreme temperatures, a key feature for FKM seal material, ensuring reliable performance from -20°C to +200°C and beyond.

Chemical Resistance: As an FKM seal material, it exhibits unparalleled resistance to oils, fuels, and most acids, alongside excellent oxidation, UV, and weathering resistance.

Mechanical Properties: The high tensile strength and low compression set of FKM material contribute to its effectiveness in FKM tubes and FKM bushings, making it suitable for strenuous mechanical conditions.

Low Permeability:The low gas and fluid permeability of FKM is crucial in sealing applications, such as in FKM tubes and FKM bushings, particularly in the automotive and aerospace sectors.
FKM Seals: Widely used in O-rings and gaskets due to its chemical and heat resistance.

FKM Tubes and FKM Bushings: Ideal for components requiring durability in harsh environments, such as in automotive and aerospace applications.

Chemical Processing: Used in seals, hoses, and components due to its resistance to aggressive chemicals.

Oil and Gas: FKM material is essential in seals and components exposed to extreme conditions.

Grades and Variations: Different grades of FKM are available, each designed for specific environments, influencing the material’s interaction with various fluids and chemicals.
FKM can be molded and extruded into various forms, including FKM tubes and FKM bushings, with precise control over processing conditions to maintain its unique properties.
The remarkable properties of FKM, especially as an FKM seal material and in applications like FKM tubes and FKM bushings, make it an indispensable material in industries where ordinary elastomers fail.
